Kenya Power sets aside KES 130M for street lights

11 May 2015, 11:20 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - The Kenya Power has set aside KES 130 million to light up Nyeri town ahead of the beatification ceremony of Sister Irene Stefani.

Streetlights have been installed along the paths and venues where the ceremony will take place.

Kenya power managing director, Ben Chumo has said they will ensure the venues are well lit ahead of the international event.

The announcement came days after Internal Security Principal Secretary, Joseph Irungu announced that the national government would take over preparations for the occasion.

“The exercise of lighting up the town has already began. We are committed to ensure the event is successful. There will be no power outage,” Chumo assured after a meeting with Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

“Nyeri government has always been working closely with the national government. In this move, the government is both assisting the church and the devolved government which is a good a gesture,” observed Gachagua.
