Makueni - The leadership wrangles currently witnessed in some counties are a threat to realization of devolution.
Deputy speaker of the Senate, Kembi Gitura Tuesday said the conflict between governors and members of county assemblies are there to frustrate implantation of county development agendas at the expense of the county residents.
He observed the problems facing Makueni and Isiolo counties should be solved amicably before the option of dissolving the devolved units is adopted.

Speaking at Murang’a School of Deaf, Kembi underscored the role of senate in protecting devolution which he said is the only way of taking development to the grassroots towards attainment of Vision 2030.
“We as Members of the senate have a core role to oversee the running of counties and how the allocated funds are utilized at the ground in order to avoid misappropriation of the public money,” said Kembi.
He divulged that the senate has already formed a committee that will look at the problems facing Makueni county government to evade dissolution of the local government saying that taking people to another exercise of electing new county leaders will be expensive to the government and also will derail provision of services to the residents.
“The Senate Committee will work on solving the problems facing Makueni County, as we cannot allow some county governments to be dissolved though is provided in the Constitution, since this will pose obstacle in the implementation of devolution,” Kembi stressed.
