Karatina University closed indefinitely after chaos

Nyeri - Karatina University main campus in Nyeri County was closed indefinitely on Wednesday following students' unrest.
The more than 500 students were protesting over increased school fees and destroyed nine vehicles.
They also shattered window panes of the administration block among other damages at the institution.
The protesting students who were chanting anti – administration slogans and waving placards claimed that school fees has been increased by KES 6,000 per student.
Police were forced to used tear gas canisters to disperse the rioting students.

Efforts to contact the vice chancellor were fruitless as he was said to be in a crisis meeting.
The institution was closed until further notice following the chaos.
This comes barely a day after the closure of neigbouring Dedan Kimathi University of Technology after students' protests over the Vice Chancellor's management of the institution.
