Karangi officially hands over military reins to Mwathethe

Nairobi - General Julius Karangi has officially handed over the command of the Kenya Defence Forces to the newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant-General Samson Mwathethe.
Military spokesperson Major Emmanuel Chirchir said Mwathethe will be sworn in on Tuesday after the handover ceremony at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

“Kenya's new military boss will be sworn in tomorrow (Tuesday). Karangi completes symbolic handover at Defence Headquarters," Chirchir said.
Mwathethe was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed Karangi who took over from retired General Jeremiah Kianga.
