Kambi throws Atwoli out of NSSF board

Nairobi - Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi has dismissed COTU boss Francis Atwoli from the board of the National Social Security Fund NSSF.
Kambi made the announcement Friday in Nairobi, claiming that the reason behind the move was to create space for new blood on the board.
He cited the fact that Atwoli had done 2 terms on the board, which he feels is too much.
Jacqueline Mugo of the Federation of Kenya Employers FKE was also thrown out for the same reason.
" The two have been on this board for way too long and I think it is time some change was enacted to add freshness, he said.
The decision is likely to be met with derision considering Atwoli's position in the Kenyan workforce.
The two deposed officials represent arguably the most important part of the Kenyan workforce, with most workers unions falling under the COTU umbrella and employers being represented by FKE.
Kambi argued that the move was in line with the new NSSF act which states members of the board must not serve more than two terms.
