Nairobi - Transport CS Michael Kamau has been released on a KES 1 million bail after appearing in court to answer to charges of abuse of office.
Kamau was taken to the Anti Corruption court Thursday to answer to the charges after being taken in by detectives early morning.
The CS recorded a statement with the police before being taken to court to plead to the charges.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned before Senior principal magistrate Lawrence Mugambi and was released on a KES 1 million cash bail or a bond of KES 3 million.
The CS lost a bid to stop his prosecution over the allegations at the High Court on Tuesday after Judge Mumbi Ngugi said she could not issue the temporary orders before hearing arguments from all parties.
Kamau is accused of colluding with officials of the Kundan Singh Construction Company to change the consultant’s design resulting in embezzlement of public funds in the building of the the Kamukuywa to Kimilili road in Western Kenya.
In his application, Kamau accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of usurping
the powers of the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission, in ordering an
investigation against him.
However, the EACC said in its argument that the case against Kamau begun before President Kenyatta made the announcement.
