Kalonzo invites Sonko to unseat Mutua in Machakos
12 August 2015, 14:37
Nairobi - Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has invited Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko to contest for the Machakos governorship and help unseat current Governor Alfred Mutua.
The call was made by Kalonzo's team over the weekend as it seems that he and Mutua have fallen out completely.
Mutua has on several occasions snubbed Kalonzo and his events and over the weekend, did the same.
According to sources close to the Wiper Party leader, the rift between them is now at an all time low.
" Kalonzo and Mutua are in a deep rut. Kalonzo has lost hope in their relationship and is moving forward," the source stated to News24.
Thus the call to Sonko.
The Nairobi Senator, when contacted by News24 stated that he was not interested in the move, though he says he respects Kalonzo and the Wiper party.
" I am happy to be mentioned but there is no truth to the matter," he said.
" The people of Nairobi have voted me in and trust me to do a job for them and I will not let them down," he stated.
It is not yet clear what will be the next step for Mutua who over the weekend also stated that he would consider running his own Kamba coalition.
According to observers, it will be an interesting sub plot to the 2017 General Elections.
" It will be a war of attrition between the two and will be interesting to see. Will Kambas go for development or for old tribal roots," political sciences lecturer Musyoki Nzili told News24.
