Kajwang's Homa Bay petition thrown out by IEBC

Nairobi - ODM Homa Bay Senatorial by election candidate Moses Kajwang has had a petition in which he wanted fellow candidates probed for beating him up dismissed.
Kajwang had complained to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC after he was roughed up by unknown youth last week during campaigns for the upcoming by elections in Rangwe, the home area of closest candidate Philip Okundi.
He had then claimed that the youth had been sponsored by his fellow candidates, a tongue in cheek accusation at Okundi and wanted them probed and censured.
However, he did not show up for a meeting set up by the IEBC Thursday to probe the incident and thus the electoral body had no choice but to throw it out.
" Petition by Homabay ODM candidate dismissed as both complainant &
witnesses fail to appear to give evidence as required by law," The IEBC said in a statement.
Kajwang is facing stiff opposition to win the election, which was occasioned by the death of his brother and former Senator Gerald Otieno Kajwang in November.
He is facing competition from Maendeleo Party of Kenya candidate former Rangwe MP Okundi who is amongst 7 other candidates vying for the seat.
Okundi is being supported by a number of ODM MPs and senior leaders including Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
The by election will be held Thursday February 12.
