Kajwang supporters cheerful over Raila’s endorsement.

07 August 2014, 21:02

Homabay - Supporters of Homabay Senator, Otieno Kajwang are in a buoyant mood following the endorsement of the senator as the bona fide ODM  Homabay County chairman by Party leader, Raila Odinga last weekend.

The supporters who thronged the streets of Homabay town said the endorsement of Kajwang by the party leader would put to rest persistent wrangles in the branch pitting Kajwang against former Rangwe legislator, Martin Ogindo and his group who had earlier staged a coup in the branch.

Former Prime Minister, Raila  Odinga on Saturday declared that Kajwang was the county ODM chairman and dismissed  the Ogindo  group.

Speaking at the famous Bunge la Wananchi grounds in Homabay town, the Odinga hailed the leadership of Kajwang as well as the Bunge la Wananchi Speaker, Walter Opiyo introducing the two to the crowd as pillars of accountability in the management of public affairs.

Raila told the crowd that the quest for referendum on pertinent issues was unstoppable and that one million signatures required will be  achieved, adding that constitution provided for a referendum to be held whenever need arose.

In apparent reference to series of fundraisers being held in Luo Nyanza by a section of politicians, Raila claimed harambees was not the panacea the problems afflicting the local community.

“Some people are busy traversing the region holding harambees which serve no purpose, in fact the funds drives are simply relics of KANU era when they only served political interests and abetted corruption,” he said.

He claimed corruption in the public sector was rampant and asked the government to step up efforts to stem the vice.
