Kajwang death suspicious, say MPs

19 November 2014, 17:52 William Korir

Nairobi - The death of Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang is suspicious and must be probed, some MPs have said.

The Senator died Tuesday night of apparent cardiac arrest at the Mater Hospital in Nairobi after complaining of chest pains and being rushed to the facility.

The real cause of his death will be determined once a post-moterm is done in the coming days but according to three MPs, the death is suspicious.

MPs John Mbadi of Suba, Opiyo Wandayi from Ugunja and Aduma Owuor of Nyakach said  at parliament buildings Wednesday that they feel the government should probe the death as it sounds suspicious.

They insisted that they will ensure the final cause of death is determined to ensure Kenyans know his cause of death.

" There is need for us to have a group of credible pathologists to probe his death so we have the exact cause of death detailed to Kenyans, Mbadi said.

" The government needs to ensure we rule out any wrong doing in this case. It is vital," he added.

Reports have stated that Kajwang complained of chest pains a week ago and Mbadi says that if that is the case and the death was natural, they would let it be.

" We need the government to remove any doubt in our minds that the death was an act of malice, he added.

The autopsy is expected to be done Friday.
