Kajwang: Blame Kibaki for Coast land mess

04 August 2014, 17:05 William Korir

Nairobi - The CORD coalition has blamed former president Mwai Kibaki for the current mess in land allocation at the Coast.

They insist that a recent declaration by Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu that Siaya Senator James Orengo is being investigated over irregular allocation of land in Lamu is just a ploy to frustrate and shift blame over the current problems in the county.

Orengo, CORD leader Raila Odinga, and others insisted that the problems in the county date back to colonial days and previous regimes.

" It is unfortunate to see the government blame our brother Orengo for the mess in Lamu and we will resist it as far as we can, Odinga said in Karachuonyo.

" We know who the real culprits are and we will name them if the government arrests Orengo, he added.

Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang insisted that the issues with land in the county are to be blamed on former president Mwai Kibaki.

" Kibaki is to blame for the problems there and that is where the focus should be, not on sideshows, he cried.

" The land issue has been politicized by the government in Lamu and we will not be afraid to come out with our own information if it goes down this route, he added.

Orengo has denied involvement in the said land grabbing in Lamu, where 22 companies are alleged to have taken in 500,000 acres of land irregularly.

" I am not afraid of defending myself and I am ready to do so when the time comes.
