KUPPET Bungoma branch has insisted today that the strike set for September 1st is still intact
Speaking to the press during the branch executive meeting in Bungoma the chairman Mr. Masai arap Bokose is still on unless the government meets the union’s demands.
Mr. Masai said they will hold a grant strike never witnessed before terming it “the grandmother of all strikes” come September if the government does not honor their request.
He said the government should harmonize salaries of teachers in post primary institutions to equal other public servants citing the allowances as one of the key areas of interest especially house, commuter, medical and responsibility allowances saying the principals in post primary institutions do not have responsibility allowances.
He also said the salaries and remuneration commission should give the union’s members’ 100% salary increment further urging the president not to assent the TSC bill which the union claims it violates fundamental rights of teachers.
Mr. Masai urged principals with large school farms to take Agricultural Finance Corporation loans to promote agriculture and enhance school productivity so that the schools income is high to facilitate fees subsidy.
