Even the government departments were quick to use twitter to keep the nation and the rest of the world posted. We had the disaster operations, ministry of interior, immigration department and even the director of immigration with handles.
@InteriorKE Good to hear, you're doing a great job keeping people updated - great to see social media being used for this purpose. #JKIAFire

Of course some Kenyans on Twitter or as they are notoriously known as KOT decided to take to humour and speculations as a coping mechanism maybe? Or their usual razzle whenever something newsworthy occurs.

An intelligent investigator would rule out terror attack already! A terrorist would achieve 'more' up in the air than at arrival.#JKIAFire

The media were not spared from the roasts as they all jostled to be heard and to be the first with the highest ratings as the story developed.

Kenyan journos rely on twitter for news.why are y'all so shocked they can't handle live reporting about the #JKIAFire?
On a somber note many Kenyans can’t help but remember that fifteen years ago on this same day, there was a bomb blast at the then US embassy building by terrorists in Kenya that took many lives and left many injured some baring some of those wounds today.
crème de la crème @Mcmark_G
Mayne! August is just being itself. #jkiafire
#jkiafire cannot just be a fire according to the #bbc relating it to terrorism though that coincidence for 08/08 is uncanny
Today is August 7th. Fifteen years ago the "Breaking News" was much more tragic. Let's be grateful for no loss of lives here. #JKIAFire
As of now the cause of the blaze has not been established but it is clear that we are still unable to cope with national disasters promptly. But you can be assured that social media has made the relay of information faster and created new age journalists.
