Nakuru - Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials in Rift Valley have said they will support Wilson Sossion for the union's Secretary General.
The officials drawn from 14 counties in the region said that the outgoing National Chairman of KNUT has what it takes to become Secretary General of the union.
Speaking Thursday to the media in Nakuru after holding a meeting where Sossion was in attendance, Nakuru town Executive Secretary of KNUT, Njau Kuria, said that Sossion has proven himself a credible leader to hold the office.
“We are going to support Sossion for this post because we believe in his ability to guide us,” he said.
Njau said that the upcoming elections in December will not in anyway divide the union saying that KNUT is a democratic union.
He further said that it was high time the union elected a young Secretary General to spearhead KNUT to the next level.
“We are looking for a leader who is younger and that’s why we have endorsed our National Chair for the post,” he said.
While addressing the media at the same time, Sossion said that all the eight national KNUT posts must be shared equitably.
He added that the union needs to have a national outlook, with all the tribes represented at the helm of KNUT.
Sossion also said that the election must be conducted in a free and fair manner to reflect the democracy that exists in the union.
“All that I want to do is to make sure that our teachers in the country have a better pay and that’s why am seeking this post,” he asserted.
