Nairobi - Kenyatta National Hospital is holding the annual vitreo-retinal surgery project from 3 to 16 November, 2014.
The project focuses on treating eye diseases which specifically affect the retina such as retinal detachment, retinal bleeding and retinal trauma.
The hospital’s Ophthalmology team in collaboration with German eye specialists is targeting to treat 20 patients every week at a subsidized cost of KES 70,000 per patient.
“Exposure to direct sunlight, dust and physical injuries are the main causes of retinal complications,” said Dr. Patrick Nyaga , the Head of Ophthalmology Department at KNH.
He urged the general public to observe regular check-ups for immediate attendance in case of any defect and which will reduce the cost and the risk of surgery.
