28 March 2014, 12:35
Nairobi - The Kenya National Examination Council KNEC has extended the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE registration deadline by seven days.
This follows delays in registration for many students after KNECs website crashed amidst increased activity.
The body said in a statement that the deadline would be extended due to the unavoidable circumstances created with the website slowing down.
" The deadline for KCSE registration has been extended to April 7, 2014 due to problems that have come up in the online registration system, the statement read in part.
The move though, will not affect those for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE which remains March 31, 2014.
" The deadline for KCPE registration will remain March 31, it added.
Schools had complained severally about delays in registering students for the exams, with some saying they could not access the website.
KNEC had earlier said that it was working overtime to ensure that the site is in the best position to deliver during this critical time.
Close to 500,000 students are set to apply for a chance to partake the 2014 KCSE exams.
