KNBS receives the ISO Certification

18 November 2013, 20:31 Samuel Kisika

Nairobi - The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has received the ISO 9001: 2008 certification, putting it among organizations who offer quality services for global identification.

Anne Waiguru, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Devolution and Planning said KNBS' ISO certification achievement is a milestone for more efficient and effective delivery of statistical information.

"KNBS' quality statistical information to the public will promote both societal and national economic growth in relation to the recently launched Huduma Center," said Waiguru.

"The statistical information will help to determine the performance of various government sectors for appropriate measures to be taken for improvement," she added.

Waiguru said accurate statistical information will enable the nation to work towards the global 2015 Millennium Development Goals, and the country's anticipated Vision 2030.She further said the government will provide adequate funding to KNBS for its services to be delivered under one roof to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Waiguru noted that statistical data on African economic progress shows that the continent has attained a five per cent GDP growth.

Zachary Mwangi, the KNBS Director General said the that the Bureau's attainment of the ISO certification is a motivation for committed quality service delivery despite having financial constraints in its operation. Mwangi urged the National Treasury to increase its financial allocation to the Bureau for efficient and effective statistical service delivery to the public.
