Lives of residents of Manguo location, Laikipia County, are set to be transformed economically and health wise after the commissioning of a KES 12 million water extension project in the area.
Addressing the residents during the function at Manguo on Thursday last week, Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company (NYAHUWASCO) managing director Joseph Theuri said that the residents would access clean and safe water.
The project involved construction of a masonry reservoir tank in an elevated area to ensure steady supply of water.
It also involved construction of five vendor-taps to generate income for the operators.
“The operators are expected to be selling water to the residents at a fair and affordable price,” Theuri told the crowd.
"They are supposed to be the custodians of the installations in their premises and guard them against vandalism," he added.
He encouraged those who wish to have individual connections to apply for them adding that the company extended the distribution network to cover an extra 15 KM to reach more residents.
The MD urged them to own the project and guard the installations to ensure sustainability of the project.
He also pointed out that the 80 year old colonial water treatment works and pipeline had outlived its ‘life’ thereby making the company incur heavy maintenance costs.
Water shortages, he added, would be a thing of the past once the company’s 3 200 cubic metres daily capacity is enhanced to 6 000 cubic metres upon completion of a KES 1.2 Billion expansion project being implemented by a Chinese company-Syno-Hydro.
