KES 110,000 raised in CORD fundraiser for teachers

Nairobi - The CORD coalition led fundraiser to aide teachers has so far collected KES 110,000, it has been revealed.
Safaricom, who are in-charge of the paybill number 672672 say that there has so far been deposited KES 110, 390 as at 6.30 PM Thursday.
The identity of the persons who deposited the money could not be revealed.
It was also not possible to verify whether the amount reflects the KES 100,000 CORD leader Raila Odinga had promised to aid the campaign with.
" So far we have reached KES 110,390," a Safaricom official told News24.
The fundraising drive started by CORD leader Odinga was meant to help the 288,000 teachers feel in solidarity with Kenyans over the ongoing impasse which has seen teachers strike for the last 4 weeks.
Schools have been closed as a result and the government says that it has no money to pay teachers who are demanding KES 17 billion in an initial payment of the 50/60% payrise granted by the labour courts.
There was not yet word from the CORD secretariat over the matter which has drawn mixed reactions over its ability to actually have an impact on teachers, as well as the management of it.
