KES 100m granted for early childhood education

Busia - KES 100million has been granted for a Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD) classrooms project to launched in Busia by the County Government.
County Chief Officer for Finance and Economic Planning Allan Omachar and Education counterpart Joel Barua Tuesday confirmed 29 contractors will begin with phase one of the project, which will see 33 out of the 105 classrooms built
Addressing journalists in Busia town after the signing of the contracts, Omachar noted that the negotiation committee estimated that the cost of one classroom is KES 950,000.
Three classrooms will be constructed in each of the 35 wards in Busia County.
“Due to logistic challenges, the project started five months behind schedule” Omachar disclosed.
He however thanked the contractors for their patience and urged them to work hard.
A contractor, Innocent Oluku urged the County Government to blacklist contractors who are found to perform shoddy jobs.
Barua told contractors to live up to their expectations saying the County Government should not be blamed for the action taken on those who will perform their duties poorly.
