Kisumu - The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is set to expand several airstrips within the greater Nyanza region.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu, KAA Acting Managing Director, Yatich Kangogo said works to expand the Kabunde airstrip in Homa Bay County have already kicked off.
Kangogo said the KES 200 000 million contract was awarded to Glanack Investment Limited Company, adding that the facelift is expected to boost business and tourism in the area.

“Other airstrips within the greater Nyanza area to be rehabilitated include Migwena in Bondo and Suneka in Kisii,” he said.
Kangogo said that as part of their efforts to improve the lives of communities living around airports, KAA has built a modern primary school in Usoma, Kisumu County, with a capacity of 500 pupils at a cost of KES 20 million.
He noted that the Vision 2030 seeks to make Kenya a middle income economy with a growth rate of 10 percent, and education has been identified as one of the four pillars of the economy recovery strategy.
