KAA suspends six officials over KES 11 million bus scam
20 May 2015, 18:38
Nairobi - The Kenya Airports Authority KAA has interdicted 6 officials over the scam in which the Authority was accused of spending KES 11 million monthly to hire 5 buses.
This follows a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week to have those who approved the deal to face the music, terming it wastage of public funds.
The President blew open the lid on the scandal whilst officially opening Terminal 2 of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
He said that he would have easily given the authority buses from the National Youth Service at a cost of KES 100,000 monthly.
The officers suspended include the CEO Lucy Mbugua, the Chief Finance Officer
John Thumbi, Legal Counsel Victor Arika, Airport Engineer Christopher Ngure, Head of Examination Martin Kamau and the
Procurement Manager Lilian Okoti.
Mbugua had already been mentioned in a different report by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC and has been suspended from office.
The named officers will vacate office for three months while investigations into the scam continue.
