KAA, Dufry Group sign agreement for Duty Free services

22 October 2014, 13:24 Samuel Kisika

Nairobi - Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Dufry, an International AG company operating retail outlets and convenience stores, have signed a Concession Agreement for development and management of Duty Free Retail Services under a Single Master License at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The agreement offered through an open competitive international tender will see Dufry operate an excess of 751 square meters retail space which will include Duty Free Shops, F&B (Café, Restaurant), Communication & Phone Center and Foreign Exchange Service until 2024.

The Dufry Group CEO, Julian Diaz, said, “We are very pleased about this new agreement with Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). Dufry's new business in Kenya will allow us to further develop the business in Africa.”

The KAA Managing Director, Lucy Mbugua, commended the signed agreement which she said it will enhance her company’s status of being the preferred airport system hub in the region.

"Kenya Airports Authority is happy to be associated with Dufry which is one of the biggest duty free retailers in the world. With this agreement our passengers will be able to enjoy a superior airport experience, comparable to the best internationally,” said Mbugua.

The commercial area is located at the departure of the newly opened Terminal 1A at JKIA.

Mbugua reiterated that the new retail space will allow Dufry to offer a comprehensive range of products, and offer its clients a unique shopping experience with additional international and local bestselling brands especially in the Tobacco, Spirits, Fine Food, Perfume &Cosmetics, Fashion and assorted Accessories.

In 2013 a total of 6 million passengers used the JKIA and the KAA aircraft was recently ranked third in the world in air transport services.
