Kampala - People, especially married women living in the outskirts of Kampala, are living in fear of being gang raped by juvenile delinquents aged between 14 and 17 years.
The young people, who move in groups of five to ten especially at night, had been grabbing women's handbags and robbing men at knifepoint.
''But now they have started gang raping women in their homes after digging holes on their fences and houses. We have so far received many reports about such incidents,'' said police officer Marvin Ndobo.
He added that most of the recent victims of gang rape are married women, noting that the delinquents target recently married women whose husbands return late from work or those in polygamous marriages whose husbands are at times not at home.
''The most recent incident took place at Nakawuka about 9 miles from Kampala where we arrested five boys one aged 17, another 16, two 15 and one 14 for gang raping a recently married woman,'' said Ndobo.
The boys reportedly dug a hole on the wall of the house as the man spent the night at his second wife's house, and terribly gang raped the newly wed woman leaving her in pain.
Police have warned women to be extra careful to avoid such incidents.
