Juma makes history as MPs reject cabinet appointment

Nairobi - Members of Parliament have kicked out nominee to the position of Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma after voting not to extend the period for consideration of their decision by 10 days.
Juma's fate was sealed Thursday after MPs voted 150 to 55 to have her not take up the position she was moved to by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
MPs had to vote to kick her out after leader of Majority Aden Duale raised a motion to have the report by a Parliamentary Committee which had asked that she not be considered for the position.
The Parliamentary Committee on Security had rejected her appointment on the basis that she was arrogant, having earlier written a letter to the House asking MPs not to come to her office whilst she was the Permanent Secretary in the Interior Ministry.
" Her actions were against the spirit of the constitution in which the members of the house are granted power to represent Kenyans and in her asking MPs not to go to her office, she was basically denying Kenyans a chance to access to a public office," the report by the Committee read.
Leader of Minority Francis Nyenze had also asked MPs to give Juma a chance as she was qualified, but in vain.
Juma becomes President Uhuru Kenyatta's first appointee to be rejected by Parliament.
