Jubilee punishing Royal Media for supporting Raila

03 March 2015, 11:48 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - Kisumu town east Member of Parliament, Shakir Shabir has claimed that the Jubilee government is using the digital migration saga as a way of punishing Royal Media Services group for allegedly supporting CORD coalition during the 2013 general elections.

Shabir said that Jubilee has a hidden vendetta against Royal Media Services owner, S.K Macharia after he openly supported CORD leader, Raila Odinga during the 2013 general elections.

Speaking during a parliamentary-county governments relations forum in Nakuru Monday, Shabir said the government is doing everything possible to bring down the media mogul.

“It is an open secret that Macharia supported Raila in 2013 and that did not go well with his people from central Kenya and because they are in government, they are doing everything possible to frustrate him and drive him out of the market. The whole issue of digital migration is just being used as an excuse but the war is targeted at Macharia and Royal Media services,” said Shabir.

Shabir added that the government is afraid of free media because it is full of corrupt individuals who cannot withstand free media, and accused the government of influencing decisions made the Communications Authority which is an independent institution.

“Whatever decisions the CA has been taking in the recent past are government decisions because CA officials have been taken hostage by the government and cannot make informed and independent decisions,” he said.
