Jubilee plan to appeal Kajiado Central election loss
20 March 2015, 13:43
Nairobi - The Jubilee Alliance Party JAP will likely appeal the Kajiado Central by election loss.
The party lost the recent poll by around 500 votes to the Orange Democratic Party ODM.
ODM's Elijah Memusi Kanchori garnered 16,008 votes to JAP's Patrick Tutui's 15,567 votes.
Initially, the JAP candidate had said that he would not appeal the result of the closely fought elections and that he would accept defeat.
However, according to sources, Tutui is mulling his options and will likely contest the result.
" He is likely to contest the result. We are not yet at that decision because he is looking at what evidence he has but he is likely to complain, an aide of the losing candidate that did not want to be named told News24.
" The election was close and the margin of victory small, meaning that any small irregularity could be pivotal," the aide added.
So far, there has been no indication from JAP officially that they will consider contesting the ODM win.
Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau who was amongst key electoral campaign chiefs said Thursday that the party will release a report detailing reasons for the failure but did not essentially say that an appeal was on the pipeline.
