Kisumu - The Kenya National Youth Council has accused the national government of sidelining the youth in appointments, contrary to its promise that the youth agenda shall be given top priority.
A ststement from the Council’s Chairman Clement Oyundo said the Jubilee government had failed on its promise to create employment opportunities for the youth.
He accused the government of using the youth platform to advance their personal political interests at the expense of frustrated and unemployed youth.
“The youth have been left out in several appointments on grounds that they do not have the experience yet they have not been granted any chance to perform for them to gain the requisite experience,” Oyundo said.
He argued that the youth should be appointed to leadership positions so that they project the youth’s plights and be part of the decision making process as they contribute towards national development.
“If the youths are excluded in decision making, then who can present their grievances,” the chairman said.
He further asked the county governments to come up with consolidated funds as County Youth Development Funds for facilitating the youths to run their business enterprises.
