Following Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the just completed polls on Saturday morning, his victory celebrations in Nyeri turned tragic when one of the Lorries in the celebration carnivals lost control and plunged in a ditch.
The accident claimed the life of a 23-year-old street boy leaving 30 others critically injured.
The body of the deceased was taken to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital morgue while those injured were admitted at Nyeri PGH hospital.
The canter-lorry was heading to Giakanja area fringes of Nyeri town to collect more supporters to celebrate together.
Confirming the incident, Nyeri police boss Kirunya Limbitu said the lorry lost control due to over speeding and that it was carrying excessive weight than it could bear.
He cautioned party and candidate supporters against violating laws in their celebrations and to be keen on road safety.
Jubilations in the area started at 4.00Am after people received reports that Jubilee flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta has clinched the seat.
With vuvuzelas and twigs, the young men were singing TNA and Uhuru’s slogans considering that the region was one of his strong holds.
