Jubilee Alliance not solid
21 December 2012, 14:29
The word of your mouth ties you down like a York. That is one statement that no man should forget because we as human beings have the tendency to utter words without consideration. Whenever you speak make sure you are sure of your statement whether it is a remark or promise.
Recently it emergered that DPM Uhuru Kenyatta had given his word to DPM Musalia Mudavadi that he would step down in support of him for the presidential bid. But this statement seems to not to be the actual position of the DPM. To me it sounded like a promise of some sort and now that Uhuru is going back on his word, it looks like a promise might just be broken.
When the former Finance minister promised Musalia the flag bearer position in the Jubilee alliance, he should have known that he was promising a politician and not an ordinary Kenyan. A politician will not go down easily and that is why Musalia had to let the cat out of the bag. If it were a promise to ordinary ‘mwananchi’ then Uhuru would not feel obliged to honour any word. This controversy seems to be creating a sought of rift between the two leaders because Uhuru is under pressure to be flag bearer and still under pressure to hand over the flag to Musalia.
It is a tight spot the alliance has found itself in of late and this is a crisis that needs a solution quickly. As we head closer to March 4th, no one is ready to let their ambitions blow away with the wind because they know how hard it is to bounce back. How these two sons of great men will bargain out their interests is yet to be known but one thing is for sure; as days strike out the heat is increasing and one of them might be left seriously burnt. The wise man in this alliance is Mr. Ruto who decided to sit back and serve in a deputising position to whoever is given the flag.
How all this turns out is hard to tell. What the alliance needs right now is clear heads that can strategize and manage to resolve this issue among others that are beneath the carpet. Time is running out and it won’t do well to the alliance’s supporters if the whole house crambles.
