Bungoma - 16 inmates at the Bungoma GK prison who are preparing to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) have a reason to smile after a local business woman donated to them examination materials.
The inmates on Wednesday received an assorted of examination materials including exercise books, geometrical sets and biro pens, which were donated by Sedie Omar, a Bungoma based business lady.
Speaking to journalists after donating the items to the candidates at the facility, Ms Omar said her philanthropic gesture is a small way of giving back to the larger community.

She promised to mobilize other members of the Bungoma business community to come up with ways of assisting the prisoners at the institution.
“In the near future together with other members’ local business fraternity, we will come up with ways of assisting all the inmates at the prison if possible,” said Ms Omar, who also gave each of the candidates a pair of sandals.
Bungoma County Prison Commander Mr Henry Ochieng applauded the
businesswoman for her good gesture, and appealed to other individuals and institutions willing to assist inmates, to be free and liaise with his office.
"Our doors are open; we are ready to cooperate with any institution or group of persons that wants to do their Corporate Social Responsibility Programme (CSR) at our Bungoma prison ," said Ochieng , who is also the officer in charge of the facility.
