Joho troops fully support the referendum

24 September 2014, 16:50 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - Mombasa County Assembly has enormously rallied its support for the Pesa Mashinani referendum calls.

In a press statement, the Mombasa County Assembly said the call for a referendum will ensure that current challenges facing the people of Kenya will be resolved through a referendum dubbed Okoa Kenya pesa mashinani.

The MCAs said they will support the referendum to rally for the County participation in key and sensitive issues such as security to complement the efforts of national government.

They said the referendum will ensure that counties have adequate funding to have meaningful development at the grassroots.

The Mombasa County Assembly said there was need to strengthen the National Land Commission and clearly define the roles and benefits for communities in natural areas.

The call for restructuring of the Lands Commission comes amid the ongoing wrangles between the Commission chairman Mohammed Swazuri and Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu over the extension of leases and roles of each department.

The County Assembly of Mombasa has also condemned the recent attack on Governor Rutto by the Majority Leader, Aden Duale and termed it as disrespectful and uncivilized.

They urged Duale to respect the institution of governorship and called on him to apologise to Rutto and the people of Bomet County.
