Jimmy Kibaki against Wambui's bid

24 December 2012, 13:05Wangui Joseph

Othaya parliamentary seat politics and President Kibaki’s succession took another direction on Sunday after president’s son Jimmy Kibaki claimed that his father has endorsed one of the aspirants, Gichuki Mugambi.

Prior to announcing his interests to the area MP’s seat Gichuki was the chairman of Othaya Development Association (ODA) and Jimmy argued that he has initiated a lot of development projects in the constituency.

Addressing Gichuki’s campaign rally at Iriani ward in Othaya, Jimmy said his father had great confidence with Gichuki and therefore he had been sent to endorse him.

He also claimed that Kibaki had consulted TNA party leader Uhuru Kenyatta over the decision and agreed to support Gichuki’s bid to vie for the seat on a TNA ticket.

“The president told me to leave straight to Othaya and assist Gichuki in his campaigns,” said Jimmy.

However, Gichuki’s rival and a renowned PNU activist Mary Wambui dismissed Jimmy’s claims and said that Kibaki has not endorsed any candidate fit to elective any seat.

She said that those were Jimmy’s individual opinions but not of the president and he should stop misleading Othaya people and tarnishing president’s name.

“Despite Jimmy’s opinion, am still in the race for I know votes are with electorates not an individual,” she stated.

Gichuki will face Mary Wambui and a Nairobi lawyer Peter King’ara for the TNA nomination ticket.
