Kericho - A second-year male student at University of Kabianga stabbed to death his campus girlfriend over the weekend following a disagreement before attempting to take away his own life.
The 21-year-old student in the School of Education and Social Sciences is said to have visited his girlfriend in her hostel where an argument ensued. The young man stabbed her five times using a kitchen knife.
Confirming the incident, University of Kabianga students’ association communication director, Abdulkarim Taraja, told News24 that students who rushed to the girl’s room found her in a pool of blood.
“The unfortunate incident occurred in Hostel H7 room 425 where the girl was putting up. The 21-year-old girl was rushed to Kericho District hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” said Taraja.

He said both students hail from Trans-Nzoia County and university security officers arrested the young man as he tried to escape towards Kabianga River.
“He was handed over to police and a suicide note found in his possession explaining why he stabbed his girlfriend. He may have been contemplating taking his own life, as per the note,” explained Taraja.
Jamleck Mbuba, Kericho West sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, confirmed to journalists that the man is being held at Sosiot Police Station.
“He will be arraigned in court once investigations into this matter are completed. The body of the deceased lady is at Kericho District Hospital mortuary,” said Mbuba.
