Minister for Fisheries Development has sent his condolences to family members of the victims of the two grenade attacks in Mombasa on Saturday evening.

Amason Jefa Kingi who is also acting Industrialization minister luckily escaped Mtwapa attack as the grenade was hurled few minutes after he passed by the scene of incident from Mombasa heading to Malindi.

He condemned the attackers and said the government is doing all its best to arrest them.

Addressing journalists at PataPata international club ground on Saturday night after attending the official opening of the club Kingi said the grenade exploded few minutes after he passed by the scene of incident.

“I was coming here in Malindi from Mombasa in the evening for this grand opening of the PataPata international club when the incident occurred. I was lucky because five minutes after I passed by the scene of incident then the attacker hurled the grenade at a crusade,” he said.

However Kingi assured residents visiting the region for Easter Holiday that they will be safe as the government had put security measures to protect Kenyans from any attacks.

“We know that the area is frequently visited by foreigners and domestic tourists as well as during the Easter many people visit the region and so the security agents are alert to protect innocent Kenyans and visitors from any attack,” said the Minister.

He said detectives were on their toes to investigate the matter and arrest suspects expressing optimisms that there will be no such incident in the region again.

Kingi who is also the Magarini member of public said the blasts should not be used to scare residents and visitors planning to visit the region for Easter holidays.

On Sunday Minister for Internal Security Professor Gorge Saitoti and Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited the region and urged residents to volunteer information to police in order to arrest the suspects.

Professor Saitoti blamed Al-shabaab saying they were responsible adding that the government will continue fighting against the insurgents.
