Jaguar to quit NACADA, cites corruption

29 June 2015, 12:46 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Musician Jaguar says he will resign from the board of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse NACADA, citing chronic corruption as his reason.

The musician who was appointed to the NACADA board by President Uhuru Kenyatta in May, says that he does not want to sit in a place where funds belonging to poor Kenyans are being plundered.

He says that since he cannot deal with the corruption on his own, he has decided he will step aside and move forward with his hands clean unless the issue of corruption is dealt with.

He has called on the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC, Police and office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to deal with the issue within 2 weeks or he will resign.

" The levels of corruption are too high and since there is no will be the board to clear the authority of corruption, I have decided to resign in 2 weeks unless something is done," he said Monday.

He said that he had tried his best to change the mindset of the authority but had failed and insisted that he does not want to carry on at the authority.

" I have tried my best but change is not forthcoming," he added.

The threat of resignation comes just a few days after chairman John Mututho's suspension of 6 senior officials was reversed by the board.

The board claimed that Mututho had not followed the right procedures in calling for the suspensions.

Mututho had claimed that the 6, including CEO William Okedi had been involved in fraud of as much as KES 99 million, while in previous times there had been several cases of serious fraud that had failed to be dealt with.
