Italian government will spend about half a billion shillings in 2013 for sponsoring different development projects in Kilifi County, a top Italian government official has said.
According to Italian ambassador to Kenya Paola Imperiale, her government will make sure the cash is availed immediately and distributed to various projects for the sake of development.
“Italian government is targeting to use half a billion shillings in the country, specifically Kilifi county, this year," she noted.
Speaking during the official opening of a theatre room sponsored by her government over the weekend, Imperiale said they will work together with the government of Kenya to ensure developments are realized in the area.
She said her government has already used about 2.5 million Euros to support different development projects in Malindi district alone.
The theater room in Malindi district hospital is fully equipped and has cost the Italian government KES 100m.
The ambassador added that the negotiation to have the money released to Kenya is underway and that the cash will be availed very soon.
He was accompanied by Kilifi county governor Amason Jefa Kingi who said his government will renovate Malindi district hospital morgue which is in deplorable condition.
“Our plan is to renovate the mortuary rooms. Locals are experiencing a lot of problems keeping their loved ones in the morgue," he said.
Apart from that, the governor promised that his government will also make sure all funds set aside for health facilities in the larger Kilifi County are used well.
He said that they will increase the number of health facilities in all parts of the county to ensure that local residents access them easily.
