Issue title deeds to all schools immediately, Uhuru orders

22 January 2015, 19:04 William Korir

Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the lands ministry to issue title deeds to all public schools with immediate effect.

The president said Thursday that it was disheartening to see schools, which are custodians of public land be stripped of their rightly given benefits thanks to land grabbers.

He ordered Lands CS Charity Ngilu to speed up the process and ensure all schools have their necessary certification as soon as possible.

He also called on the school deeds to be written in the name of their respective Boards of Governors to avoid the transfer of land to undeserving persons.

" I think it is important that the land that our children need to develop be protected," he said of the order.

Uhuru also called on elected leaders who know where cases of grabbed land exist to tell the government so that appropriate action can be taken.

" I call on elected leaders to do the same. If you know where pieces of grabbed land are, tell us so we can do something about it as a government," he added.

Uhuru spoke during the opening of construction of the new Outering Road, a project he said was necessary for the growth of the Eastlands region of the city of Nairobi.

He however steered clear of the purported names of land-grabbers of the piece of school playground in Langata once again.

Lands CS Ngilu later in the day named the four as Madip Singh, Madit Singh, Haban Singh and Kamal Amrish Singh, all directors of the Airport View Housing Company LTD.

It is not yet clear what action will be taken on the four.
