Kericho - Business came to a standstill at Sigor town in Chepalungu constituency after a section of residents held a demonstration to protest an alleged misappropriation of CDF cash.
The protestors accused the CDF officials of allocating cash to projects of their own choice while neglecting those proposed by residents.
While waving branches and placards, they also accused the officials of lack of transparency during disbursement of bursaries whereby children from able families are favoured.
“How comes these officials allocate money to projects which were not proposed by residents? Enough is enough and we are not going to allow this to continue,” said Joel Cheruiyot, who is a former councilor in the area.
They also accused the area MP Paul Bii Savimbi of allowing misappropriation and injustice to continue before his eyes.
“Instead of punishing corrupt officials, our MP has just remained numb and has taken no action so far. Many deserving children have remained at home due to lack of school fees yet the officials continue to give bursaries to children from able families,” said Samuel Koros.
Drama unfolded when the irate protestors invaded the CDF office and evicted officials and threatening to paralyze operations in the office until new officials are hired.
However, area MP was not present during the demonstration and could not answer the phone.
