A 7 months old baby girl died on Monday night during an enormous blaze which also gutted down properties worth millions of shillings in Laikipia.
The 7Pm incident occurred at Kabiru Estate in Laikipia East District where at least 70 houses were completely gutted down.
Speaking to the media in his office, Laikipia East Police boss Joshua Lutukai confirmed that the child’s mother had left her in the house to go to the nearby shop to buy food for supper.
“When the young mother returned home, she found the houses on fire. Witnesses told me that the fire emanated from the house where the baby was torched,” explained Lutukai.
Lutukai however said that the cause of the fire is still unknown but assured that investigations are underway.
He also said that fire fighters from the British Army and the Nanyuki Municipal council managed to put off the inferno.
