Imagining a death scenario can help us refocus
14 September 2015, 12:10
Death is the departure from the physical world. Thoughts of death are traumatizing and spine-tingling. The imagination of mortality emanates from different situations including depression, illness or even hardship. Sometimes, the thought just creeps into our minds. When envisioning death, my heart skips not one, but several beats. The thought of leaving my family, friends and not achieving my dreams are heart wrecking.
When I imagine death, I love to visualize an instant and painless death. The slow death caused by disease, injury or psychological illnesses is something I never want to experience. It is eerie how I picture my family mourning, the flowers and wreath from both friends and enemies. Though the human psyche is imaginative, it is hard to perceive a better ending but the inevitable death. Oblivious of my immortality, I sometimes love to picture myself living forever.
Death makes me nervous and anxious because I do not know the hour or minute my death comes. Though my ultimate death scenario entails having made significant achievements, sometimes I imagine an untimely death. During these times, I am scared the most. I fear to die not having accomplished God’s will and being the best. If I die without leaving a mark, then I will not have lived at all. The thought of death so terrifies many people I know though that they don’t even entertain it.

What I’m I saying? The thoughts of death make me realize that I need to live to the fullest, love with all my heart, endeavor to forgive and make amends where I can. Sometimes we get comfortable in the temporary world, and take so many things for granted. I believe it is important to pose and reflect. If your life was to end today, what impact would you have made? Would you be happy with how you led your life, treated others, handled situations or perceived the world up to this moment?
If you are like me, you will realize the need for a soul search and to refocus. So today, take some time, reflect and make adjustments to live a meaningful life while it lasts. Otherwise, someday we'll all meet in the great Frozen Pond in the Sky, I guess? The problem is we do not know when the sun rises for us, and hence we need to make our stay here worthwhile.
