Icelander charged for insulting flight attendant

Mombasa - An Iceland national was charged before a Mombasa law court for hurling insults at a flight attendant at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Vidar Sirgurdsson denied the charged before Justice Samuel Gacheru
It is alleged that on April 23, 2014 at the Moi International Airport, Sirgurdsson called Said Mtsumi, a flight attendant, 'stupid baboon' while discharging his duties.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused, who had booked a flight from Mombasa to Nairobi, was asked to produce his flight ticket by Mtsumi, but instead of obeying he started shouting at the attendant using abusive language.
The airport police officers arrested the accused and took him to Changamwe police station.
The prosecutor requested the court not to release the accused on bail since he might abscond the court proceedings.
“The accused should submit his passport and be released on a surety bond of Kenyan origin,” said the prosecutor.
The accused informed the court that he has been living Kenya for the two years where he is working in the construction industry and has a farm in Malindi.
“I cannot fail to appear in court as I am married and have all my investments here in Kenya,” said Sigurdsson.
Gacheru ruled that the accused be released on a bond of KES 100 000 a Kenyan surety of similar amount.
The case will be heard on July 19, 2014.
