Nairobi - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has congratulated General Samson Mwathethe following his appointment and subsequent swearing in as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
IGAD Executive Secretary, Ambassador Mahboub Maalim congratulated the new CDF on behalf of the regional bloc in a letter sent to him on Tuesday.
Maalim said he was confident that Mwathethe would professionally discharge his duties as the new CDF since he had interacted with him in his previous position in pursuit of regional peace, security and economic development.
“The IGAD Secretariat appreciates his immense contribution and looks forward to his continued collaboration,” he said.
“I personally value his humility and professionalism that has propelled him to this highest level in his career,” the IGAD Executive Secretary concluded in a congratulatory letter sent to the new CDF.

Mwathethe was sworn in at a ceremony witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.
President Kenyatta said the government will scale up budgetary allocation to the country’s security dockets to enable them tackle security challenges effectively.
“Even as government increases resources, security forces are expected to develop a clear and coherent strategy to confront terror and other security threats in the country,” he said.
He asked the military, para-military, regular and administration police forces to pool resources to protect the country from both external and internal enemies.
He also directed the security forces to use all resources at their disposal in defense of the country and the people of Kenya.
“I am confident that with the will, determination and support of friendly nations, Kenya will overcome the security threats posed by terrorists,” he said.
