Nairobi – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has urged residents of Bonchari Constituency in Kisii County and Misikhu ward in Bungoma County to turn out in large numbers and vote in the June 23 by-elections.
The IEBC Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Zipporah Mbarui said the Commission has put all the required facilities in place in addition to training its officers in preparation for the voting exercise.
“Our election officers are already trained to carry out their duties with high integrity in Bonchari and Misikhu on June 23. Journalists to cover the exercise will be accredited on June 22 and we call upon all the eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to elect their leaders,” said Mbarui.
Mbarui warned the cleared contestants against involving in any election malpractices such as bribery, attacking the opponent’s supporters among others.
“I urge both the constants and their supporters to observe the elections code of conduct for IEBC to have ample time in performing its duties. Anyone caught engaging in any election irregularities will be disqualified and face the full force of the law,” warned Mbarui.
Both mini-polls will be a litmus test for supremacy between the Jubilee and Cord coalitions to ensure contestants allied to their respective political parties clinch the seats.
