Nyeri - The electoral commission will register students who have national identity cards as voters.
Commissioner Muthoni Wangai said the commission will sensitize High School, College and University students on the significance of participating in elections.
Speaking at Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) town offices in Nyeri Wednesday, Muthoni said the commission’s officials will hold sensitization workshops in learning institutions in order to increase voters countrywide.
She spoke during a voter registration exercise for Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs).

Muthoni however decried that a high number of youths do not participate in elections but stage demonstrations when their preferred candidates lose.
She further said that the ongoing Voter Education Week will be an annual event aimed at educating voters on making informed decisions during elections.
The commissioner was accompanied by Nyeri regional elections coordinator, Patrick Odame.
Odame said the Voter Education Week is seeking to involve public in electoral process and inclusiveness of the disadvantaged.
He explained that his region that covers Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Nyandarua counties has registered more than 2 000 new voters in the progressive voter registration which has been ongoing at the commission’s constituency offices.
