IEBC hires 460 poll officials ahead of Kabete by-election

Nairobi - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that preparations are on course for the Kabete Constituency and Oloolua County Assembly Ward by-elections scheduled for Monday next week.
In a statement, the commission said training of polling officials started on 26th April, 2015 and will continue up to 1st May.
“In total, IEBC will engage over 460 poll officials in Kabete and over 100 in Oloolua. The poll officials include Presiding Officers (POs), Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs) and polling clerks. They will be deployed to polling stations on Sunday 3rd May, 2015,” the commission said.
IEBC has also lined up a number of stakeholder forums this week including meetings with political party agents, observers, security agencies, and marginalized groups as well as the media to sensitize them on the conduct of the by-elections.
“The official campaign period ends on Saturday, 2nd April, 2015 at 6.00pm,” IEBC said.
According to the commission, Kabete has a total of 62,470 registered voters in 92 polling stations spread across five County Assembly Wards.
Nine candidates are in the race for the Member of National Assembly position.
On its part, Oloolua is a County Assembly Ward in Kajiado North Constituency with a total of 13,403 registered voters in 19 polling stations.
There are six (6) candidates seeking to be the area Member of County Assembly.
