IDPs given ultimatum to move

The government on Thursday gave a 24 hours ultimatum to over 1700 people claiming to be “IDPs” who were evicted from Mau forest and who are currently camping at Tegat in Mauche division Njoro.
Making the announcement on Thursday, Njoro DC Mohammed Noor who had been accompanied by Njoro OCPD Peter Njeru and Kenya Forest Service Personnel, Mohammed said they had reasons to believe that people were transported by politicians who only want to gain political achieve from as far as Koibatek, Transmara and Bomet.
“We have our reliable reasons that we can even prove that this people were brought here by politicians who only want to earn political gain in this region by importing this people from Koibateka, Transmara and Bomet” aid Noor.
The DC added that the government will not allow anyone to build any sructure in the area adding that those who will set up ones will be brought down by today.
But this move was quickly revoked by members camping in the area insisting that they have been living in the area for the last twelve years. But the DC plaid down the complaints claiming they were baseless reasons.
All hell broke loose as the residents started to barricade the road as they marched in protest heckling the government official forcing the DC from leaving. It took the efforts of police personnel to calm the “IDPs”.
