Nakuru - Over 200 participants in Nakuru on Thursday benefited from a forum that was held by International Criminal Court (ICC) that was organized to Educate them, on how ICC operates and executes its duties at The Hague.
The forum aimed at creating awareness of ICC functions, saw the participants who were drawn from Nakuru and its environs attended the program.
According to the ICC Outreach program coordinator Maria Kamara, the ongoing exercise will also allow people to digest issues regarding
“The programme is aimed at explaining the Court’s decision, discuss further steps of the judicial process and address concerns of the Kenyans,” said Kamara.
Kamara told the participants that the court is not politically interfered with but is fair and justice will be done regarding the Kenyans case and the suspects will get justice at the end of the court exercise.
The residents were educated on the court’s processes so that they can have a chance of enlightening the rest of the public at the grassroot level.
Kamara went on to add that the outreach program is targeting the hot spots of the aftermath of the 2007/2008 post election violence.
Some participants expressed their concerns that the outreach program alone was not the ultimate solution to the mass of misinformation and
politicisation surrounding cases before the ICC, but they can help counter the problem.
Since the outreach program is independent, then it will be hard for people who want to spin as a biased process to make their argument.
The court’s outreach activities started in Kenya in December 2009 after the prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo requested authorization to
launch the investigation into the 2007/08 Post election Violence.
