Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga has told President Uhuru Kenyatta that he supports the existence of the National Youth Service NYS but wants corruption at the service.
The CORD leader was speaking Monday during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Archdiocese of Kisumu under Rev Zacchaeus Okoth at Uzima University College.
He told President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was at the event that he had no issue with the NYS and only wanted corruption that had been exposed there dealt with decisively.
Talk in recent weeks has been on the KES 826 million scandal at the NYS which has divided the opposition from the government side.
With Uhuru in attendance, Raila was never going to spurn the chance to speak directly to the President over the matter.
" We are not against NYS. No one has said that. What we are against is corruption at NYS bwana President," he said when he spoke.
" There has been misappropriation of funds and all that we ask is that the people who are in-charge are brought to book," he added.
The President did not directly respond to the CORD leader but said that indeed his government was keen on ensuring that corruption was dealt with.
" The government is working and will continue to work to ensure that corruption in the public service is dealt with,"he said.
There has been a tug of war between Jubilee and CORD coalition leaders regarding graft, with both sides arguing for or against the suspension of Waiguru.
