I mistook bhang for cigarette, man tells court

Murang'a - A man who was arraigned in a Murang’a town court Tuesday for possessing a roll of bhang told court that he thought it was a cigarette.
Jonathan Kiiru, who was arrested by police at Mjini village in Murang’a Township, said that he had collected the roll on the roadside thinking it was tobacco.

The Senior Principal Magistrate, Thomas Nzyoki, fined him KES 20 000 or in default serve six months in jail regardless of his defense.
In the same court, a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver was fined KES 5 000 for driving without wearing the driver’s badge.
James Mwangi, who pleaded guilty to the offense, plies the Murang’a-Nairobi route and was arrested Tuesday morning.
